After battling a groin injury throughout 2010, Ryan O’Keefe was back to his best in 2011.

O’Keefe was the Club’s leading possession winner for the season, and finished top three in a host of statistics including tackles, clearances, contested possessions and inside 50s.

O’Keefe spoke to sydneyswans.com.au about his great his season.

How did you rate your season?

It was good. The previous year was quite frustrating because of the groin injury and I wasn’t able to play at 100 per cent. This year was much better because I was able to do what I wanted to do and not be restricted by my body. It was a really positive year as we had a new coach, new game style, developed lots of young players and still played in two finals. Our list now has a really good blend of young and old which is a real positive.

What was the highlight of your season?

Probably beating Geelong in Geelong. Not so much for the younger guys, but for the older guys who had never won down there, it was great. They threw everything at us and we were still able to win. I suppose that sits up there with some of my most memorable matches because it was something so many of us hadn’t done before.

Who most impressed you this year?

A lot of players did actually. For guys like Josh and Mummy to back up again - sometimes players that come to new clubs have a really good breakout year and then might drop off a little the next season - but those guys really backed up and played consistent footy, which was great. For the young guys like Alex Johnson and Reidy to come in and have the impact they did was great. Hanners, coming off the Rising Star could have had a flat year, but he backed up again and improved.

What areas do you and the team need to improve on next season?

Goal kicking accuracy. Full stop. I was terrible except for the last two games. I think as a skill, being able to finish is just so important. We were much improved in inside 50s and maybe even shots on goal but we just need to convert. I’m not sure why I had such a poor year in front of goal - it’s just one of those things.

What are you doing in the break?

Spending time with the family, cycling around China for two weeks with Jared Crouch, and also renovating my house.
