WEST Coast will have to ride out the season without two key defenders, after the club decided to book in Adam Hunter and Brett Jones for surgery next week.

Hunter requires both a shoulder reconstruction and knee surgery, while Jones needs knee surgery.

Both have been booked in for surgery next week and will be put on modified programs when pre-season training starts in October.

The Eagles released a statement explaining that both players had been troubled by worn cartilage at the back of the knee, causing Hunter pain when kicking over long distances while Jones had trouble running and turning.

Jones won't be able to run for four months after the operation.

Hunter and Jones join Beau Waters (elbow), Mitch Brown (knee) and Chris Masten (groin) as others to have had their seasons ended by injury, while Shannon Hurn (leg) and Matt Rosa (ankle) are facing a race against time to play again this season.
