Collingwood's training session commenced earlier than usual with extremely high temperatures predicted for Friday 22 January.

The players and coaches were confronted by muggy conditions and overcast skies with over 100 supporters turning out to watch the session.

Head coach Mick Malthouse was at the helm for over two hours working his players through full ground drills.

The only notable absence was lively forward Brad Dick, who will miss the first eight weeks of the season with a shoulder injury sustained in the team's preseason camp in Arizona last November.

Simon Buckley and Sharrod Wellingham were impressive during the drills, both players earning praise from coaches after the session.

Also standing out was second-year Magpie Steele Sidebottom who looks to have added several kilograms to his frame and trained strongly with the midfield group.

The team finished the day with an extensive workout inside the Lexus Centre.

Heath Shaw looks set to perform a karate move before the session commences.

Nick Maxwell lays a tackle on Ben Johnson with Tomas Bugg (member of the Australian Institute of Sport trialling with the club this week) and Alan Toovey looking on.
