The Lions’ 43-point win over Geelong on Saturday night meant his team has now beaten both of last year’s grand finalists in the space of a month.
Voss’s team convincingly beat Hawthorn by seven goals in Tasmania a month ago before running away from the injury-riddled Cats at the weekend.
“I think it means a lot,” Voss said at the Gabba on Monday.
“You look at Hawthorn, a month ago, Geelong now under whatever circumstances … to beat the two grand final teams of last year, I think has been a genuine scalp for this group of players.
“They should take away a lot of confidence that they can match it with the best teams in the competition.”
While Saturday’s win ensured the Lions maintained sixth position on the ladder, they are just one win behind third spot, prompting talk of a top-four berth.
“I’d like to make top eight first; that would be nice,” Voss said.
“When that’s tied away, I think you could sort of look at it and say ‘okay, can we look towards the horizon and have a look at where we want to finish and what games are coming up?’
“But we haven’t got there yet; we’re on nine wins. We’ve got a really crucial game this week and we’re just trying to scrape along. It’s very tight.”
The Lions travel to Subiaco this week to take on Fremantle, who will be reeling after booting just one goal in their humiliating 117-point loss to Adelaide last Saturday.
Voss is expecting a revved-up home side this weekend.
“I don’t think you have to be Einstein to realise that they’re going to be a team under pressure this week,” he said.
“The fact that they’ve kicked one goal [and] they’ve obviously lost in the fashion they have, if I know the media in WA, there will be a fair bit of talkback about what they did or didn’t do.
“We’d fully expect that they’d rebound from that.”
