SYDNEY SWANS injury woes continued at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.
19-year-old Kristin Thornton limped off the field with what is almost certainly the team’s second season ending knee injury in a week after Nick Malceski went to ground last weekend against the Hawks at Launceston.
Amon Buchanan also left the field in the second term after he jarred his knee but coach Paul Roos believes he’ll be up and about by next week.
“I think it’s another re-co (for Thornton) so we’re going well on that front, we’re not going to play any half back flanks next week” quipped Roos.
In better news for the Swans, star forward Barry Hall returned from his injury enforced absence from the side kicking four goals in the first half before being rested for the remainder of the game.
“He were weighing up whether to play him tonight or not. He was training well during the week and he played very well."
Another positive for Roos is the progress of 20-year-old ruckman Jesse White who he indicated could feature when the season proper starts.
“I think Jesse’s been really good so he might get the chance depending on how Spida’s (Everitt) going.”
Roos is also using pre-season games to increase the versatility of forward Heath Grundy who scored two goals against the Power.
“It’s always handy in AFL if you can play both ends and that’s probably the best thing about the past three weeks. He kicked four on Teddy Richards in the intra club and he went back last week (matching up on Buddy Franklin), then tonight he played forward and then went back late in the game… so if he can do that he can be really valuable.”
