Vanessa has sold more than one million albums in her career, after being signed at the tender age of 14. After seven years out of the music business, her re-emergence has solidified her as one of Australia's top female talents.

Describe your earliest football memories
My earliest memory of the football was watching the game with my grandad. We used to watch the Hawks play and he would go crazy about it.

How would you describe your passion for the game?
I don't think it’s something you can describe. I have been surrounded by it since I was a kid and as I have grown my passion for the game has grown with me.

How do you show your allegiance to your club?
My favourite team is Carlton. I guess the best way I show my allegiance is by watching them play and screaming at them (all nice comments, of course). Oh, and checking the players out! I also perform at a few Carlton functions which is always fun.

Highlights and lowlights you’ve experienced as a fan
Lowlights have been the last couple of years while Carlton have been struggling a bit and the highlight has been watching them start to make an impact this year.

How has your involvement with footy evolved?

I first became involved in high school where I played in an all-girls team, which is where I fell in love with the sport. My music is priority number one, so I had to put my dream of being the first professional woman football player on hold for a while.

How has footy carried over into other areas of your life?
It’s definitely carried over into the music side as I have had the honour of having my song Start It as the Channel 7 AFL theme song this year. I love that my two favourite things have combined! I also like to incorporate footy into my everyday life if I can. Being on tour means I don't get much time to hit the gym so kicking the footy around with a few guys from the band is always a good way to keep fit and clear my head.

Do you share your passion for the game with others who are new to it?
Football has such a strong Melbourne identity and is iconic with Australia. I love telling friends overseas of our sport.

What is the one thing you love most about footy and why?
I don't think I can narrow it down to just one thing. Here are a few: the atmosphere, the crowd, hanging my scarf out the car window when my team has won ... and tight shorts.

Vanessa Amorosi has returned to the spotlight with a Top 10 single and a Top 5 album. Her latest single, 'Perfect', is currently #7 on the ARIA charts, and the album debuted at #4.
