THE BRISBANE Lions could make a play for free agents Brent Moloney and Clinton Young if their bid to lure departing Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett fails.

Speaking on AFL.com.au's Gillette AFL Trade Radio on Thursday afternoon, Lions national talent manager Rob Kerr said although they were hopeful of acquiring Tippett, they were prepared to look further afield.

Kerr said he hoped Tippett would nominate his preferred club - expected to be one of Gold Coast, Sydney Swans or the Lions - in the next 24 to 48 hours.

However, if the big forward chose to head somewhere other than the Gabba, Kerr said the Lions were still on the lookout for one more mature body to complement their young list.

"We made no secret of the fact last year we were interested in Kurt," Kerr said.

"We certainly had discussions with him last year and some this year, [but] in recent times he's been working through his management. We've got to abide by that."

Kerr said restricted free agent Moloney - who has expressed his desire to leave Melbourne - and unrestricted Hawk Young, would fit the Lions' bill perfectly.

He said a mature midfielder would be the primary aim if the Tippett bid fell through.

"It depends what happens with Kurt," Kerr said.

"We would like to bring one mature body to the group. If it doesn't go our way with Kurt, we'll reassess our position.

"If that's the path we go down, we'll certainly revisit it and have a look at Brent or a Clinton Young for example.

"They're the type of players we'd have to look at. The added attraction is they're free agents and don't cost you a draft pick."

Kerr said the Lions hoped Jonathan Brown had at least one more season in him after 2012.

He also indicated out-of-contract youngsters Aaron Cornelius and Callum Bartlett were close to re-signing.
