The Hawks, who have had a busy few months since pre-season began in October last year are off to a flying start.

After returning from a short break over the Christmas/New Year period the players have ramped up their sessions, training five days a week in the lead up to the Hawks’ first pre-season cup match on Saturday 13 February at Aurora Stadium.

Having signed up over 6000 Tasmanian members, the Club is looking forward to launching their pre-season campaign at its second home. With Club membership up 22% compared to the same time last year, the Hawks are poised for an impressive year both on and off the field.

The squad has been progressing well with Clinton Young and Shaun Burgoyne all returning to the track after injury setbacks in 2009. Max Bailey also continues to rehabilitate well after suffering another knee injury last season.

Leaders Sam Mitchell and Luke Hodge, as always, have set the tone for training intensity and professionalism around the Club, and have been ably supported by forward Lance Franklin and new recruit Josh Gibson among others.

The Club’s younger players in Liam Shiels and Ryan Schoenmakers have impressed coaches with their outstanding work ethic and attitude ahead of their second AFL season.

On Friday 22 January, members and supporters are invited to the Hawks opening training session and community day at Pakenham Football Club.

After training, the players will conduct an open skills clinic and an autograph signing session.

Membership and merchandise will also be available on the day, find out more.
