Power was recruited by the Lions from Victorian junior club the Oakleigh Chargers who coincidentally will play in this weekend’s curtain raiser match at the Gabba on Saturday against the Queensland Scorpions.
The Lions selected Power with Pick No.5 in the 1997 AFL National Draft – a pick they received from Fremantle as part of a trade which saw current Lions Assistant Coach Adrian Fletcher become a Docker.
Throughout his decorated 11-year career, the 28 year-old has received All-Australian selection, twice been Club Champion Runner-up and was a prominent member of the Lions’ hat-trick of premierships from 2001-2003. He is also one of the Club’s most active community event and charity initiative player volunteers.
His consistency and value to the team is evident by the fact that he has finished in the top five of the Club Champion award each year since 2002.
The Club extends its congratulations to Luke on his impending milestone and hopes that all Lions members and supporters can flock to the Gabba on Saturday night to cheer him on.
