THE AFL has announced ticket prices for the 2008 Toyota AFL Finals Series with a standard adult ticket for the grand final costing $161. The best views in the house, at premium level will cost $213, while a restricted view or standing area seat will set punters back $142.50.

The AFL commission decided that base prices for the opening six finals at the home of football, the MCG, for the elimination, qualifying and semi finals in weeks one and two of the finals will remain the same as the past two years, with the only changes in price structure due to ground re-development levies and ticket agent fees.

"It is a key plank of the AFL's strategic plan to maximise attendances and we wish to ensure that prices remain affordable in all states for members and supporters of each of the teams that will qualify for this year's finals," AFL chief Andrew Demetriou said.

"The AFL is currently on track to break last year's all-time attendance record, with our figures tracking comfortably ahead of the 2007 year, and we hope the approach to low pricing for the first two weeks of the finals in particular for a second consecutive year will encourage all supporters of the final eight teams to experience these matches.”

Standard adult tickets for the first week of the finals’ series at the MCG will cost $43 and go up to $63 for premium seating.

"Around 60 per cent of all finals attendances are recorded in the first two weeks of the finals series - so this provides a benefit for supporters of all teams involved in this year's finals series. The price structure in Queensland and New South Wales is relative to what applies for the two teams in the premiership season and has the support of both clubs, while South Australian prices are relative to their 2007 finals prices," he said.

The prices for the 2008 preliminary finals and the grand final will increase by an average of 3.5 per cent across all tickets for the three games, the minimum amount possible reflecting the premium nature of the last three matches of the season.
