The Vodafone Brisbane Lions will be without Troy Selwood and Joel Macdonald for Saturday night's important match against the Swans at the Gabba.
The pair were ruled out on Friday afternoon by Senior Coach Leigh Matthews during a media conference at the Gabba.
"Troy Selwood didn't quite come up and Joel Macdonald should be ok next week but he's had a virus that has affected his kidneys a bit. He was in hospital for a couple of days and they didn't think he should play this weekend," he said.
The loss of Selwood and Macdonald is a cruel blow for the Lions who need a win against the Swans to keep their finals hopes alive.
"Joel has been very good for the past couple of months and so has Troy and they are a couple of guys from our back six that are now not available."
Emergencies Justin Sherman and Matthew Moody have been included into the team.
The Swans will be without Tadhg Kennelly who injured himself at training last night. He has been replaced by first gamer Ed Barlow.
