The AFL today announced the squad’s for the Dream Team and Victoria sides for the Hall of Fame Tribute Match on May 10, with the Dream Team’s star-studded line up including Fremantle’s Matthew Pavlich and Luke McPharlin.

The match, to be played at the MCG, is a centrepiece of Australian Football’s 150-year celebrations, marking the 150th anniversary of the first-ever game between Melbourne Grammar and Scotch College, played in 1858.

Dream Team Coach Mark Williams, Assistant Coach Neale Daniher and Captain Andrew McLeod are the team's selection panel, with players from 13 clubs chosen to make up the 40-man squad.

Matthew’s selection is no surprise after an impressive start to 2008 following on from his outstanding season in 2007 that saw him earn his fifth All Australian selection after booting a club season record 72 goals at an average of 3.4 per game. He also led the AFL in marks with 203 at an average of 9.2 per game and collected 381 disposals at an average of 17.3 per game. In his first as Captain of the club, he took home his fourth Doig Medal having won in 2002, 2005 and 2006, seeing him become the record holder for most Doig Medals. South Australian born, Matthew was also named Captain in the SANFL’s honorary State of Origin team.

Luke has also started the 2008 season in style which has seen him impress at both ends of the ground for Fremantle. Luke’s form follows on from a fantastic 2007 season which saw him finish in third place in the club’s fairest and best count, the Doig Medal. He averaged 14.1 disposals and 7.2 marks per game and despite playing most of the season at fullback, again showed his versatility when moved forward in the round 21 match against Melbourne, his 100th game for Fremantle, kicking 5 goals to take his career tally to 68. McPharlin was selected in the 2007 WA State of Origin side, his third selection after also being selected in 2004 and 2005.

The team will gather in Melbourne for training at the MCG on Wednesday May 7 and Friday May 9, before the final team of 25 (18 plus seven interchange) is named the day before the game.

The state by state breakdown of the Dream Team saw 15 South Australians, 12 Western Australians, four New South Welshmen, four from the Northern Territory, two Queenslands, one Tasmanian, one from the ACT and one Irishman selected.
