Highly regarded midfielder Brett Meredith will play his first senior game for the year, when he lines up against North Melbourne on Sunday at the SCG.
Meredith was named in the final Swans side tonight, after defender Martin Mattner failed to overcome a corked thigh he suffered in last Sunday’s loss to Richmond.
Meredith was the number 26 pick in the 2007 draft. Shoulder injuries cruelled his 2008 season, and he made his debut in 2009.
He played seven senior games and impressed with his decision-making and poise until injury forced him out again.
Meredith has been one of the reserves’ strongest players in recent weeks, and is rapt to get his chance against the Kangaroos this Sunday.
Meredith is one of three changes to the side, with Paul Bevan and Ted Richards also earning a call-up.
Swans coach Paul Roos said Richards, who has been out of the side since round nine, could be used either in attack or defence and would help cover the loss of Henry Playfair, who has an acute stress fracture in his back.
Bevan comes in for defensive midfielder Craig Bird, who has foot soreness.
The emergencies for Sunday’s game are Lewis Johnston, Pat Veszpremi and Lewis Jetta.
The Swans reserves will play in the curtain raiser to Sunday’s game against North Melbourne. The reserves meet Tuggeranong, with the match starting at 9.50am. Gates to the SCG open at 9.45am, and don't forget it's family day, with a family pass for two adults and up to four children costing just $40.
