MARK WILLIAMS: Certainly the size of the ground has something to do with it. It doesn’t help when you’re trying to play an open style of game but to be fair I thought Sydney beat us fair and square. We won the hard ball gets and we won the tackles and we won the inside 50s and we won the clearances and we won the goals from clearances but we didn’t win the game. Sydney caused us to turnover the ball too many times and make mistakes. Then when they turned the ball over we didn’t get anything out of it so we’ll be looking to improve in that area.--- alot of our star players didn’t play well against the swans. i won’t name them but do you think they got complacant or were the swans guys 2 good for them on the day?
mars
MARK WILLIAMS: Yeah I thought they were too good for them on the day. That’s the facts. Certainly there wasn’t any complacency there. We were very aware of what was coming up against us. This is a team that has almost won the last two premierships. Kennelly and Dempster – two running backmen – were in their side and they were a lot different to the two games previously that they’d lost. Playing at home under that sort of pressure they really performed and would be very proud of their efforts.
--- Can Greg Bentley be a small defender? He did well on O’Keefe from what I saw. I always thought he was going to be a half-forward but Dad said he’s always been a small defender but I thought he might have been confused with someone else.
Michael Robinson
MARK WILLIAMS: The best part about Greg is he can play both ends of the ground. Everyone’s delighted with how he played, we thought he played a really good game. To play on such an important player as O’Keefe and keep him down and kick a goal on him as well is a great achievement for him and certainly a feather in his cap. He’s got a lot of learning to do but with the great coaching of both (defenders coach) Adam Kingsley and (forwards coach) Jason Cripps he’s going to learn a lot about both ends of the ground, and there are a lot of experienced and mature players in those areas who can help him as well .--- Hi Mark. 6 and 2 is still a good start so hopefully the boys keep their heads up. Massive game this week, I’m looking forward to it. Just looking back on that hard training session during the week, would you do that again because we seemed a bit flat and not particularly hard to be honest.
Peter
MARK WILLIAMS: Well training was on Wednesday and the game was on Sunday. The training for the rest of the week was very sharp and very short. That training had no impact on our performance at all. We didn’t come to play and it was disappointing. You’re happy to be beaten by better players but when the effort is not to the standard it should be then we are concerned. The players have addressed that and we hope to show it this week.
