The Crows, who have won their past four games, are only out of fourth spot on percentage behind the equally impressive Brisbane Lions.
However, Thompson said the club’s goal remains the same.
“Our focus at the moment is definitely just to make the top eight," Thompson said on Monday.
"We’re sitting 7-5 now and, if you look back at the first half of the year, it’s been a satisfactory performance so far.
“There are still a lot of areas we can build on. We’ve got a lot of young guys in the side at the moment that can still find consistency and they're getting better and better with each game they play.”
The Crows, who lost three consecutive games between rounds six and eight, have taken their game to a new level over the past month.
Thompson said there had been a greater emphasis on generating faster ball movement during that time, but not much else had changed.
“Everyone out on the park needs to understand what we’re trying to do,” he said.
“We’re playing a better brand of football now and it’s all coming together, but it’s been a work in progress and there’s still a lot of improvement to happen.”
Adelaide will visit the Yorke Peninsula for its annual Telstra AFL Community Camp on Monday and Tuesday before the players enjoy a well-earned three-day-break.
The Crows return to West Lakes for training on Saturday ahead of the clash with the Sydney Swans on June 27.
Half-back Brent Reilly, who injured his hamstring early in the win over North Melbourne, is the club’s only real injury concern. He will be assessed in the coming days.
Thompson was confident the break wouldn’t interrupt the club’s winning momentum.
“I’m sure if you ask the boys they’d say the break has come at a perfect time. There are a few sore bodies and the boys enjoy a rest at this time of the year.”
