The Sydney Swans led at each quarter break to eventually win by 42-points against North Melbourne at Narrandera Sportsground on Friday night.
North Melbourne kicked the first three goals of the opening term but the Swans hit back with three goals of their own, the final one close to the quarter break siren, to go into the first break two-points ahead.
It was a strong third-quarter that put the Swans ahead; they kicked six goals unanswered in the final ten minutes of the quarter.
Ryan O’Keefe contributed a goal each quarter to lead the Swans' goal tally. Jesse White added a further three while Jude Bolton and Adam Goodes kicked two goals each.
“The Kangaroos started off really well but we pegged them back,” coach Paul Roos said after the game.
“We had a lot of pretty good players who got a lot of the ball. O’Keefe had 30 possessions, McVeigh 31, Goodes took about 12 marks. Without knowing their stats, that would indicate we had some dominance around the ground.
“I have been rapt with the pre-season efforts of both Gary Rohan and Lewis Jetta and they remain in contention for round one.
“We played against a team that has been playing well, and a team that was pretty much at full strength. We still have some work going into round one like most teams but we were pleased with the efforts of the guys tonight.
“We have finished our pre-season with three wins from four games and have some of our better players in really good form which is important.
“We have no excuse going into round one against St Kilda; we are fit and healthy, we have played well tonight and we have had a good pre-season.”
