ATTACKING Greater Western Sydney defender Nathan Wilson has been recalled to inject some run into Leon Cameron's side, but more importantly to quell Fremantle's dangerous band of small forwards.
Wilson has enjoyed a standout season for the Giants in 2016 but was surprisingly dropped to the NEAFL last week on the eve of what would have been his 50th game against West Coast, after three quiet weeks in defence.
The West Australian responded by gathering 29 possessions in the reserves to win back his spot in the backline, and will likely get the job on Michael Walters or Hayden Ballantyne.
The 23-year-old - ranked third at GWS for average metres gained and disposal efficiency – has been a revelation with his speed and kicking off half-back, and Cameron praised the way Wilson handled his demotion.
"Some players probably think they're stiff at times (to be dropped), but Nathan sort of said 'yeah, I need to find a little bit of form', and he did," he said.
"His work rate had dropped off about 10 or 15 per cent, and the good thing about it is that he was the first to acknowledge it.
"There's no doubt he's a creative half back flanker and we expect him to provide some drive which probably hasn't been there for a month, but he's also got to be able to defend guys like (Hayden) Ballantyne, (Michael) Walters and (Shane) Yarran.
"Given any bit of space they will really hurt you, and (Heath) Shaw, (Zac) Williams and (Nathan) Wilson are going to have their work cut out for them with their smalls."
Cameron said the players had thoroughly reviewed last week's meltdown against the Eagles and moved on from the disappointing one-point loss, and he was not expecting any lingering effects when they faced the Dockers on Saturday.
Defender Adam Kennedy and midfielder Matthew Kennedy were dropped this week, and the coach said changes would be made again if his players weren't focused against Fremantle.
"We have to rebound and we have to win the game," he said.
"I don't think there'll be a lapse; our guys had a hungry session on Wednesday and they're looking forward to the challenge.
"We have to make sure that our guys are playing some quality footy and doing everything we want them to do, and if they're not, then their spot becomes questionable."
Key defender Aidan Corr will play his third game back in the NEAFL this week with no game time restrictions, after missing most of the season with an ankle injury.
Cameron said the 22-year-old, who hasn't played a senior game since the Giants' round three loss to the Swans at the SCG, remains a chance to get back into the senior side before or during the finals.
