MILESTONE man Jacob Weitering says Carlton coach Michael Voss was "always the man" to lead the Blues forward, despite their disastrous run of results earlier this year.
Voss' future as coach was on thin ice after Carlton went through a torrid period in which they lost eight of nine matches - a run that included six defeats in a row.
But the Blues (7-1-8) are back in the finals mix after stringing together big wins over Gold Coast, Hawthorn and Fremantle in their past three matches.
The way Carlton destroyed the Dockers by 53 points in Perth on Sunday was particularly impressive, especially given the Blues entered the match without their two best ruckmen.
The pressure on Voss has eased for the moment, and Weitering was full of praise for the 48-year-old coach.
"For the playing group, 'Vossy' was always the man," Weitering told reporters on Tuesday.
"We have complete trust in him to do a job for us and we've got complete faith in the game plan.
"He continued to back us no matter what.
"Losing six games in a row is never ideal for a football club. The pressure will always come on, and it always comes on the coach first.
"We as a leadership group and a playing group just wanted to back him in, and he did the same for us.
"We're slowly rewarding him with some wins."
Weitering will notch his 150-game milestone in Saturday's clash with high-flying Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium.
The 25-year-old has developed into one of the League's best defenders since being taken with pick No.1 in the 2015 national draft.
Weitering has yet to play finals, and has won just 49 of the 149 matches he has played.
"I don't know my win percentage in those 150 games, but it's definitely not in the positive," Weitering said.
"Hopefully, I can turn that around going forward. That's just what we want to do."
Port Adelaide is on a 13-match winning run, and represent an excellent test for Carlton's finals credentials.
"Most football clubs would say this but I truly believe our best can beat anyone and it's going to be a massive challenge against Port Adelaide," Weitering said
"They're the in-form side in the competition, they're very strong across every line and the boys are definitely looking forward to the challenge.
"We've been building over the last month. It's come at a good time to play a side like this."
