AFLW teams' penchant for players from rival sports has continued with Collingwood's recruitment of volleyballer Eliza Hynes.
The 183cm-Hynes has never played Australian rules football but the Magpies expect her to partner with gun tall Emma King in the ruck next year.
Hynes, 25, will begin her AFLW career on Collingwood's rookie list.
"I'll look at being a forward and back-up ruck," she said.
"I'll be looking at those areas to really try and make an impact on the game."
Hynes has represented Australia in volleyball and also has a background in beach volleyball.
She joins Fremantle's Kim Mickle (javelin), Brianna Davey (soccer) of Carlton, Greater Western Sydney player Jessica Bibby (basketball) and Emma Kearney (cricket) from the Western Bulldogs as among those to play in the AFLW after switching from other sports.
Last season's League best and fairest winner Erin Phillips is an accomplished basketballer, playing for Australia in multiple Olympics.
Magpies coach Wayne Siekman praised Hynes' skill-set.
"For someone that's never played before her skills and technique are very impressive," he said.
"At 183cm tall with a strong leap it gives her a lot of opportunity to play in numerous positions.
"She's got a great kick and we'll work with her to build her understanding of the game."
