The Brisbane Lions wore black armbands last night as a sign of respect for former AFL Commission Chairman Ron Evans, who passed away on Friday.

The Board, management, staff and players of the Vodafone Brisbane Lions share the sadness felt by the entire AFL and sporting community following Evans' passing.

On behalf of the Club, Chief Executive Michael Bowers extends his sincerest condolences to Andrea and the Evans family at this difficult time.

“Ron made a lasting influence both on our football club and on the game itself, and he commanded the respect of the entire football fraternity,” Mr Bowers said.

“His contribution to the AFL in a period of sustained success will forever be remembered, and he shall be greatly missed. Our thoughts are certainly with the Evans family.”
