NORTH Melbourne captain Jack Ziebell has avoided suspension for a brutal bump that broke the ribs of Western Bulldogs forward Travis Cloke, with the Match Review Panel deeming his actions were "reasonable in the circumstances".

Ziebell cannoned into Cloke in the Good Friday clash just as the key forward had disposed of the ball in an incident that will sideline Cloke for up to six weeks with multiple broken ribs.

The MRP assessed the case on Monday and ruled that Ziebell had made a reasonable attempt to impact Cloke's kick with a legal bump, which made no high contact.  

"Cloke is in his kicking action as Ziebell seeks to impact the kick," the Panel said in its findings. 

"Ziebell makes body contact to Cloke but there was no forceful high contact made to the Western Bulldogs' player.

"It was the view of the panel Ziebell’s actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and no further action was taken."

Because Ziebell's bump was ruled legal, a medical report from the Western Bulldogs outlining the significant injuries suffered by Cloke was irrelevant to the outcome.

In other MRP rulings from the first eight matches of round four, Essendon half-back Conor McKenna copped a one-match suspension for making forceful front-on contact to Adelaide's Riley Knight.

While Knight was able to play on and take his free kick, the MRP lifted its impact grading to medium because of the risk of serious injury, with careless conduct and high contact. 

Toby Greene accepted a $1000 fine but will be under the watchful eye of the MRP for the rest of the season after striking Port Adelaide rookie Dan Houston off the ball.

Greene was saved from suspension because he was not looking at his opponent when he swung his arm back at him, with the MRP forced to grade the action as careless instead of intentional, with low impact to the head.

Eagles forward Mark LeCras also accepted a $1000 fine for a high bump on Sydney defender Aliir Aliir in last Thursday night's clash at Domain Stadium.

LeCras escaped suspension because the bump was graded as low impact to the head, given Aliir was able to get up and play on.

The Panel assessed a contest between North Melbourne defender Scott Thompson and Western Bulldogs forward Tom Boyd that left the latter with concussion.

It was the view of the Panel that both players were reaching to win possession and Thompson had no realistic alternative to contest the ball. No further action was taken.
