The AFL has announced that the round 24 clash between Collingwood and Geelong will be played at the MCG on Friday 2 September at 7:40pm.
The AFL has left finalising the final round fixture until late in the season in recent years to allow it maximum scheduling options for week one of the finals.
With the Magpies and Cats currently occupying the top two positions on the ladder, it gives the AFL the opportunity to give both sides maximum break between their final home-and-away game and their first final, should both sides finish in the top section of the ladder.
Collingwood and Geelong both have 15 wins and 60 points from 18 rounds, however the Magpies (15-1, 175.42%) sit on top of the ladder with a game in hand and a huge percentage advantage over the Cats (15-2, 138.47%).
Hawthorn (12-4, 133.90%) and Carlton 11-5-1, 132.53%) occupy third and fourth position on the ladder respectively.
Collingwood’s remaining six opponents are Essendon (MCG), Port Adelaide (AAMI Stadium), St Kilda (Etihad), Brisbane (MCG), Fremantle (Paterson’s Stadium) and Geelong (MCG). CLICK HERE to visit the fixture page on collingwoodfc.com.au.
The Magpies are a chance to win the McClelland Trophy as the top side on the ladder after the home-and-away rounds for the second-straight year and the 19th time in the club’s history.
The last time the club won back-to-back premierships was 1935-36.
