A top executive from one of Australia’s largest brewing companies has been appointed the new Chief Executive of the Port Adelaide Football Club.

Port Adelaide President Greg Boulton said Lion Nathan Australia Regional Director Mark Haysman was a standout candidate in a field of more than 60 applicants from around Australia.

Mr Haysman will be introduced to the club’s supporters via the media at 3pm today.

Mr Haysman will take up the position in October when he leaves Lion Nathan Australia where he was a Regional Director for the past three years and was in charge of operations in South Australia, the Northern Territory, Victoria and Tasmania.

“Mark Haysman is a proven manager of people and brands with a strong customer and sponsorship focus in the highly competitive national brewing market,” said Mr Boulton.

“This makes him the ideal person to be the third Chief Executive of the Port Adelaide Football Club in the AFL. He comes to Port Adelaide after leading Lion Nathan in its most successful period of growth in a regional beer market that is the most competitive in Australia.

“Mark is a leader with youth on his side. Our Board is extremely impressed with him and looks forward to working with him as he takes the helm for our highly talented staff, managers, coaches and players at Alberton.”

Mr Boulton said Mr Haysman also had an excellent strategic grasp of the challenges and workings of the AFL environment.

Port Adelaide’s Deputy Chairman, Brett Duncanson, headed the three-director sub-committee that recommended Mr Haysman to the club’s Board.

Mr Haysman, 41, is by profession a chartered accountant and is married to Lihini with four sons.

Mr Haysman said his immediate task upon joining the Power would be to “absorb and engage” as he immerses himself in the business, gets to know the club and its people from the inside and helps ready it for 2009 and the years ahead.

“I am excited at the prospect of working with the club and its people as we take on the challenge to continue to grow,” said Mr Haysman.

“We must make sure we are connecting with our members and supporters at all times, and continue to build the next generation of Power fans. I enjoy competition and I look forward to leading a great team.

“I have great admiration and respect for the Port Adelaide Football Club, through its time not only in the AFL but what it achieved over all the years in the SANFL. I am honoured to be in a position to try to continue this club’s tradition. I can’t wait to put my skills to work at the club.”
