Lance Franklin and Sam Mitchell have been selected in the AFL's All Australian Team announced this evening at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The All Australian selectors were asked to name the final team of 22 players from a squad of 40 which is selected based on team balance as if they were to play a match.

Four Hawks were honoured in the original 40-man squad - Grant Birchall, Lance Franklin, Josh Gibson and Sam Mitchell - with Franklin and Mitchell both making the final 22.

Mitchell joins Pendlebury and Thomas in the centre line, and Franklin has been selected alongside Milne and Goodes up forward.

Lance Franklin has been previously selected in both 2008 and 2010 while Sam Mitchell makes the team for the first time.

Franklin was also officially announced as the 2011 Coleman Medalist at the event.

Gibson and Birchall lost out to backs Scarlett, Glass and Enright and half-backs Murphy, Reid and Davis.

The All Australian selection panel is: Andrew Demetriou (chairman), Adrian Anderson, Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Danny Frawley, Glen Jakovich, Leigh Matthews and Mark Ricciuto.
