ONE of football’s longest awaited reunions could become a reality with Kevin Sheedy in discussions to join Richmond.

The Herald Sun reports that Sheedy has met with Richmond officials about a role that would include involvement in membership, sponsorship, coterie groups and the recently announced indigenous academy.

He is understood to have no interest in joining the Tigers’ football department.

Richmond president Gary March confirmed the Tigers met with Sheedy on Monday.

“He’s still got a lot of things on the go, but we’re trying to finalise a role where he can spend time with Richmond on key areas we need to work on,” March told the Herald Sun.

“But we are working to get Kevin back involved in the club.”

Sheedy played 251 games for Richmond before a 27-year stint as Essendon coach that ended last year. For years there have been rumours that he would eventually return to Punt Rd.

March pointed out the move was not intended to pose a threat to coach Terry Wallace.

“We spoke to Terry about it and he’s pretty comfortable,” he said.

“I think most people, including Kevin, realise he’s not going to coach again, so I think any nervousness at clubs about Kevin coming back and being a coach is gone by the wayside.

“So someone like Kevin has got a fair bit to offer.”

Sheedy is a legend of the Tigers, having captained the club in 1978 and has been named in both the Richmond Team of the Century and the club’s Hall of Fame.
