The Box Hill Hawks hit a road block against Williamstown on Saturday after the Seagulls slammed on nine goals to two in the final term to win by  41 points, 17.15.(117) to 11.10.(76).

Taking a single point lead into the final quarter, the Hawks were on the brink of setting up what possibly could have been the side's fourth victory.

Williamstown, a difficult team to beat at Burbank Oval, pulled the strings with a massive final quarter to give the Hawks another tough loss.

Box Hill Coach, Brendon Bolton, felt disappointed in the Hawks loss.

"Yes, it’s obviously disappointing to have lost now three games when the win is there for the taking.

"It has highlighted the importance of having our leadership group on the ground including Steve Kenna and Luke Ablett who provide cool heads in tight games.

"The big improvement we can make is more with our consistency and concentration.  We will learn from these situations and will train more game scenarios where we may be 5 points up or 5 down," Bolton said.

Mirroring matches against both Coburg and Port Melbourne, Box Hill's last quarter slipped and faded away.

Taking the wind, Williamstown hit back in the second to lead by 15 at the half. Striking first blood, Box Hill brought back the margin to eight points.

With all the run in the third, Box Hill opened a slight but handy nine point lead.

Williamstown closely chasing behind the Hawks kicked truly through help from Patrick Rose just before the break to see the Hawks hold onto by a single point lead at the final change.

Gathering a goal from the first clearance of the last, Cameron Stokes set the Hawks alight.

Prematurely, the curtains closed early in the final term with Williamstown powering way to a convincing victory.

Windy, Burbank Oval broke into two regions of scoring - One for scoring goals, the other behinds. A total of 22.13 was kicked to the Battery Road End, compared to 6.12 to the Stand End, with Williamstown using their local knowledge of conditions to their advantage in the final term.

Box Hill’s last quarter fade outs have proved a problem, but can have a positive influence on the Hawks matches later on in the season.

"We only look at past games from a learning perspective. Pressure is built by the way you think about situations.

"Our mindset is that the more we are in tight games the more prepared we can be for the future," Bolton said.

Matt Little again was a pocket dynamo for the Williamstown side kicking five goals as the main man of trouble for the Box Hill defence.

Little, leading in the VFL’s goal kicking in 2010 followed his seven goal bag for the VFL State Side with another to take his season tally to 31, in the lead in the chase of the Jim “Frosty” Miller Medal.

Defensively, Ryan Schoenmakers (10), Beau Muston (20) contributed strongly for the Hawks, as did Gary Moss who was creative with 20 disposals and a goal.

Chiming in, Jordan Lisle and Sam Gibson kicked two goals a piece.

Matt Sucking (23) was also important for the Hawks, setting up play through the middle.

After a great state performance the weekend before last, Ed Curnow continued his great form collecting 31 disposals.

Adding to the scoresheet, forward Ben Fagan (22 disposals) was also one of the Hawks best with an all round game, closing with two goals.

Kicking the opening three goals of the match, Box Hill pushed out to a 20 point lead at the 10th minute of the first quarter.

With Garry Moss and Matt Suckling leading the Hawks charge, the side took a 12 point lead to the break.

The match was marred by a number of controversial umpiring decisions, but overall the match was lost after Williamstown produced one of its finest final quarters for the season to date.

The Hawks showed a lot of spirit all day and were beaten on the day by the better side, with Williamstown standing up as a premiership contender this year.

Next week, Box Hill travels to Casey Fields to play the Casey Scorpions on Saturday 5 June.

Casey come off a six point win against the Bendigo Bombers in a match they controlled from start to finish.

Box Hill, still in touch with the eight are in ninth position at 3-4, equal on points with the Northern Bullants who sit in eighth.

Safe away from teams sitting below for at least the next two weeks, Box Hill will be eager to deliver supporters another victory like they did last year against Casey in Round 20 who currently sits in third position.
