The AFL, in partnership with NAB, is pleased to announce the AFLW Premiership Cup will hit the road this month, as part of the inaugural 2022 NAB AFLW Premiership Cup Tour Season Seven which will commence from November 11-24.
For the first time, women’s football’s most prestigious pieces of silverware will travel to South Australia, Queensland and Victoria and visit local communities, football clubs, schools and NAB AFL Auskick centres.
The Tour aims to celebrate female football excellence from the grassroots to the elite, recognise volunteers who have dedicated their time to developing women’s and girls’ football and highlight a number of football communities that have experienced growth in the number of women and girls participating in Australian football.
Commencing on Friday November 11 the Cup will start its Tour in Adelaide, before making its way to Queensland on November 15 and Victoria on November 20.
NAB AFLW Premiership Cup Ambassador Abbey Holmes said it was exciting to take the AFLW Premiership Cup to local communities.
“It’s fantastic to see the AFLW Premiership Cup hit the road this season and visit fans across the country for the first time as part of the NAB AFLW Premiership Cup Tour,” Holmes said.
“As this year’s NAB AFLW Premiership Cup Ambassador, I know how special it is to see this season’s silverware up close, so I’d encourage everyone to come along to see it if you have the opportunity.”
Abbey is the seventh person to be named as the NAB AFLW Premiership Cup Ambassador, following Lisa Hardeman (2022), Jamie Howell (2021), Amanda Farrugia (2020), Jan Cooper (2019), Sam Mostyn (2018) and Susan Alberti (2017).
Drafted to the Adelaide Crows in 2016, Abbey went on to be a part of the first-ever AFLW Premiership side in 2017 and since then has continued her passion for the game off the field through her expert commentary and analysis as a part of the Seven Network's commentary team for both the men's and women's competition.
NAB Group Executive for Personal Banking Rachel Slade said NAB was thrilled to be partnering with the AFL to celebrate female excellence throughout the Tour.
“It’s been another fantastic season and the NAB AFLW Premiership Cup Tour is a great way of celebrating the players and bringing even more visibility to this fantastic competition,” Ms Slade said.
“I hope it continues to inspire the next generation of athletes to get involved in the sport.”
A full list of the locations of the Tour will be unveiled on Friday November 11.
