HOT WEATHER in Springfield means heat mitigation strategies will be enforced during Sunday's AFLW Grand Final.

With the temperature expected to reach 32C in Springfield throughout the day, the AFL has increased the duration of breaks in play, as well as permitting each club to have a further two water carriers.

The quarter-time and three-quarter-time breaks will be extended from six minutes and 30 seconds to eight minutes, while the half-time break will be extended from 16 minutes to 20 minutes.

A thunderstorm is also expected to hit the Springfield area in the afternoon/evening, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting it could be severe.
