FIRST-ROUND Essendon recruit Paige Scott and Port Adelaide's Abbey Dowrick have been rewarded for their impressive round one performances by receiving NAB AFLW Rising Star nominations.

In what was one of the surprises of the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft, Paige Scott was recruited as a top-10 selection by Essendon.

Scott, 18 was one of the stars in Essendon's inaugural 26-point round one victory over Hawthorn. The dynamic youngster finished the game with 16 disposals, four marks, and booted a goal while using the ball at 75 per cent efficiency.

The key forward was recruited from the Greater Western Victoria Rebels after showcasing her match-winning ability around goals at an under-19 level. She was awarded All-Australian selection in 2021 when she won the goal-kicking award as a bottom-ager.

Port Adelaide's Abbey Dowrick has also been recognised for her performance in the Power's 12-point loss to West Coast.

The ball magnet was one of the shining lights in her debut, gathering 21 disposals, seven clearances, and taking seven marks.

The Western Australian product, who has played football for both Subiaco in the WAFL and Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFL was promptly snapped up by Port Adelaide for their inaugural AFLW campaign.

The 19-year-old caught the eyes of recruiters with her clean hands and great foot skills.

The 165cm midfielder joined fellow Western Australian Julia Teakle and Tessa Doumanis in making the move from WAFL Women to Alberton.
