New Carlton coach Mathew Buck says Blues fans will see experienced players back in their traditional roles as one of his first moves as coach.
All-Australian bookends Darcy Vescio and Kerryn Peterson were used in a variety of roles in season seven. Vescio, a two-time League goalkicking leader, featured in defence for the Blues while Peterson spent a majority of season seven on the wing.
"I think Darcy is an All-Australian forward so that's where I stand, on that hill, and I've told people they'll have to talk me off that hill," Buck told the Credit to the Girls podcast.
"Darcy's really opened the idea of going back forward and showing what they can do … we'll get Kerryn Peterson off the wing too … we look at where players play their best footy and she's been a really great defender for us."
Buck also told Credit to the Girls that high performance and elite standards will be key pillars for the Blues after the club's highly publicised review.
Part of the changes will see players training ahead of season eight during the day at the club as opposed to evenings like seasons gone by.
"We've attacked the schedule and spoken to the players around how best to equal high performance and now we've moved to a daytime type schedule to support that," Buck said.
"The girls are open to being high performing, they've shaped their lives around football at the moment so it's exciting to see how far we can go down that path."
