TAYLA Harris has returned serve at her Collingwood counterpart Stacey Livingstone, after the defender described the Carlton star as "useless" when the ball isn't in the air.

Harris added to the dialogue over Livingstone's comments when she sent a cheeky tweet on Monday afternoon, which was a picture that quoted: "A lion never loses sleep over the opinions of sheep."

Livingstone had stoked the flames in her long-running rivalry with Harris on Sunday, describing the Carlton forward as "useless" when she is not marking the ball.

Livingstone, who has been Harris' direct opponent in all four of their AFLW meetings together, got the better of the Blues star in Sunday's 15-point win at Ikon Park.

She held Harris to just six disposals and only two marks, frustrating the Carlton high-flyer throughout what was a disappointing afternoon for the hosts.

A victorious Livingstone then rubbed salt into the wounds after the match, telling broadcaster Channel Seven: "You just have to stop her in the air, that's her game. If you can do that, she's useless."

Asked to clarify her comments alongside coach Stephen Symonds after the match, Livingstone didn't back down on her brutally honest assessment of Harris' performance.

"There was a bit of smack talk, but she's a really good player," Livingstone said.

"You just have to stop her run to the ball. If you can stop her aerially, she doesn't do all that much.

"It's my fourth year playing on her, so I kind of know how to play on her. That's really satisfying."

Carlton coach Daniel Harford later defended Harris' output throughout the match, laughing off Livingstone's comments before labelling them "bordering on garbage".

However, he did concede that the experienced Livingstone got the better of Harris throughout Sunday afternoon's contest.

"God love her," Harford laughed.

"That's someone who is feeling really good about themselves after a great performance. She's entitled to feel really happy about the way she played and the way her team played today.

"Anyone who has watched Tayla play would know that's not the case, it's bordering on garbage. But she got the better of the one-on-one battle today.

"I think it's a bit of adrenaline and excitement about taking down one of the big stars of the competition. But to suggest there is only one element to Tayla's game is fodder."

Harris had earlier responded after the match, replying "same" to a tweet wishing that Collingwood and Carlton meet again this AFLW season in the finals.
