INAUGURAL Geelong AFLW coach Paul Hood has resigned after the club won just one game in 2021.

Hood has led the Cats' AFLW side for the past three seasons, having previously led the club's VFLW team in the two years prior.

He finishes with a 6-17 win-loss record, having led the Cats to three victories and a preliminary final berth in the club's first AFLW season in 2019.

Hood had a difficult workload this year, teaching at St Joseph's Geelong during the day before working at the club in the evening.

Before his involvement in the AFLW program, Hood had worked across multiple departments since the end of 2011, including VFL men's senior coach, player development manager and the Next Generation Academy manager.

"Paul has been outstanding, and we thank him for over 10 years of service to the Geelong Football Club," Geelong CEO Brian Cook said.

"Paul has been a key leader of our women's football program from its inception, he brought the program to life.

"In his many roles at the club over the past decade, Paul's unwavering commitment to the development of our players is to be commended. 

"His work with our AFLW players in recent years saw him go over and above to see them improve and succeed. Paul had a genuine care for his players, and the work he has done within our women's football program is a testament to him as a person.

"We respect Paul's decision to step away from his role and wish him the very best both personally and professionally."
