GREATER Western Sydney defender Emma Swanson needs left shoulder surgery and has been ruled out for the rest of the NAB AFLW season.

She injured her shoulder in round two against North Melbourne while accidentally sliding into the goalpost and missed round three against Carlton.

However, teammate Courtney Gum is expected to play this week after suffering a heavy cork in her left quad on Saturday and Nicola Barr will return from suspension.

Scans have confirmed Fremantle rookie Brianna Moyes tore her right ACL in the first quarter of her debut AFL Women’s game on Saturday.

The Dockers’ AFLW high-performance manager Kate Starre said the club was behind the former basketballer, who previously played for Perth Lynx in the WNBL. 

"Brianna has worked so hard to get to the point where she could make her debut, so for her to be injured in the first quarter was obviously devastating," Starre told fremantlefc.com.au.

"She will undergo surgery and following that we will work closely with her on a ‘rehab’ program to get her back on her feet."

Moyes is the fifth player to have suffered an ACL injury this year, joining Adelaide ruck Rhiannon Metcalfe, Geelong defender Elise Coventry, Melbourne defender Shae Sloane and Geelong midfielder Nina Morrison.

Collingwood key back Ash Brazill suffered a concussion in a marking collision with Fremantle's Hayley Miller, with the Docker offered a one-match suspension. 

It was a less than ideal match on the injury front for the Pies, with important midfielder Britt Bonnici suffering bruised ribs. 

Both players are tests for this week, as are Kristy Stratton (hand) and Emma Grant (shoulder). 

Experienced midfielder Melissa Kuys is available for selection for the first time this year after recovering from an Achilles injury.

Brisbane captain Leah Kaslar did not play after half-time in the team's 39-point loss to Melbourne due to a left calf injury. 

The key back has pulled up relatively well and will be on light duties for most of the week, with the club confident she will be fit to play against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night.

Teammate Sharni Webb missed the match with an ankle injury, which requires further investigation. She is unlikely to play in round four.
