I was lucky that I began supporting Hawthorn in 1970, partly because of the totally different colors they wore ( No black, white, red, blue, that all the other clubs seemed to be wearing at the time.) plus they were being called a family club ( I liked the sound of the fact that a club was even then looking after the kids, their future supporters ). Then in 1971 with the winning of a premiership I was hooked.
Both my son and I became members in 1998 and have been members ever since.
Some of the games that come back to me are (in no particular order) our biggest comeback game, against St Kilda. Our last home game of the home away season at Waverley Park against Sydney. Standing in the outer at Glenferrie Oval, in front of the railway track, and having the man come round selling bags of peanuts. Beating Collingwood at any time.
Just being a member of one of the powerhouses of the AFL, and yet, still the club that is still regarded as the Family Club gives me a great feeling.
GO HAWKS, EVER ONWARDS AND UPWARDS.
