The AFL wishes to advise the following arrangements will be in place for the media for the close today to the 2012 Gillette AFL Exchange Period.
Conclusion to AFL Exchange Period, Friday October 26
The corporate box level on Level C at Etihad Stadium will be the AFL administration room for the exchange period, for the lodgement of formal paperwork. Only AFL staff and club staff will be admitted to this room.
The Foyer Lobby area on Level C at the Gate 9 lifts will again be a common area for media and will have a screen which will detail updated current trade information. This room will be the only area accessible for media and will serve as the interview area for all club officials / player agents. Tea / coffee facilities will be provided.
The superboxes will be available to clubs to discuss trade options and these areas will not be open to media.
All media should note the trade period ends strictly at 2pm and a full list of trade paperwork will be issued via the AFL email list as soon as possible later this afternoon.
Key rules to note in the Trading / Drafting Process
- A club may exchange with another club or clubs any combination of Primary List player(s), Rookie List player(s), and National Draft Selection(s);
- Any rookie list player involved in any trade must be put on the senior list of the club to which he is traded;
- A club cannot on-trade a player received in any exchange until the following year.
- A club may exchange a draft selection it has received from another club, provided that the selection is not traded directly back to that club.
- Where the exchange of a player(s) and National Draft selection(s) involves more than two clubs, it is not a requirement that each club involved in the transaction make an exchange between each other.
- Any National Draft selection received in an exchange does not need to be exercised. However, any club that passes on a draft selection shall be excluded from exercising any remaining selections at that same meeting.
