BRODIE Holland is back for the first time in almost a year and Essendon skipper Matthew Lloyd returns for the Bombers, but key forwards Fraser Gehrig and Chris Tarrant have been dropped by St Kilda and Fremantle respectively.

In round five selection news, Holland will make a welcome return for Collingwood on Saturday night with the veteran midfielder one of three inclusions in the team to take on North Melbourne at the MCG.

The 28-year-old has been dogged by an Achilles injury and has not played since round 13 of last season. He comes into the side defeated by Carlton last week along with Tyson Goldsack and Ben Reid.

Defender Nick Maxwell will miss after copping a suspension for his high bump on Marc Murphy, while Alan Toovey and Danny Stanley have been omitted. Both have been named as emergencies along with John Anthony.

Ruckman David Hale has recovered from a quad strain and is back in the North Melbourne side after missing last week's win against Melbourne. He and Leigh Harding are the two inclusions with Josh Gibson (knee) and Ben Ross (omitted) making way.

The emergencies are Jess Sinclair, Eddie Sansbury and Josh Smith.

Melbourne midfielder Brent Moloney has been named to play just his second game of 2008 after being dropped following the Demons' round one hammering at the hands of Hawthorn.

Seeking their first win of the year, the Demons have named James Frawley, Colin Garland and Matthew Warnock on a seven-man bench for their clash with Carlton on Sunday at the MCG.

Carlton added Dennis Armfield, Adam Bentick and Adam Hartlett to the squad which completed the triumph over Collingwood last week, meaning three players will be cut from the 25 tomorrow.

Elusive Sydney Swans forward Nick Davis has finally earned a recall to the seniors for Saturday's visit to Geelong after a blistering few weeks in the Swans' reserve team.

With Barry Hall missing through suspension and injury and Luke Brennan omitted, the door has also opened for Nick Smith, promoted from the rookie list and named on the bench for his debut.

Geelong has brought back premiership defender Andrew Mackie as well as Brent Prismall, who comes in for his first game of the year. Forward Ryan Gamble misses with suspension while Harry Taylor has been dropped.

West Coast has included six players in an extended squad as it looks to get its season rolling with a win against Port Adelaide at Subiaco on Sunday.

Andrew Embley and David Wirrpanda go straight into the starting 18 with Chad Fletcher, Chad Jones, Josh Kennedy and Will Schofield named on a seven-man bench.

Brent Staker has failed to shake off the effects of the high blow inflicted by Barry Hall and is out with a concussion with Ashley Hansen (hamstring) and Scott Selwood (omitted) also to miss.

Port Adelaide has added four players – Nathan Krakouer, Tom Logan, Damon White and Adam Thomson – as it looks to break through for its first win of the season.

Defender Matt Thomas will miss Brendon Lade's 200th AFL match after sustaining a foot injury in last week's loss to the Brisbane Lions.

After just three matches on the sidelines with a wrist injury, Hawthorn defender Trent Croad will make his return weeks earlier than expected for the Hawks in their match against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday.

Jordan Lewis and Sam Mitchell complete an impressive trio of inclusions for the Hawks, while Thomas Murphy and Travis Tuck miss with injury. Cameron Stokes has been omitted.

For the Brisbane Lions, star ruckman Jamie Charman comes back into the team alongside Ashley McGrath, while Wayde Mills and Lachlan Henderson have been dropped.

Adelaide will unveil second-round draft pick Jarrhan Jacky on Saturday when the Crows host Fremantle at AAMI Stadium.

The 19-year-old goalsneak was picked 30th overall in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft and he replaces Bryce Campbell who sustained an ankle injury in last week's loss to Hawthorn in Launceston.

Patrick Dangerfield, Ivan Maric and Andy Otten are the emergencies.

Fremantle coach Mark Harvey has reacted savagely to the shock loss to Richmond with Chris Tarrant, Robert Warnock, Paul Duffield and Brett Peake all dropped from the side, while Des Headland is out with a knee injury.

Michael Johnson, Matthew Carr, Shaun McManus, Marcus Drum and Clayton Hinkley have all been included, with Hinkley, who was selected 24th overall in last year's NAB AFL Draft, set to make his debut.

Just five matches into his comeback from retirement, Fraser Gehrig has been dropped by St Kilda for its crunch Friday night clash with Essendon.

His replacement is the mobile Charlie Gardiner, who impressed with some excellent perfromances during the NAB Cup. Also missing for the Saints is Aaron Fiora, replaced by another pre-season star, David Armitage.

For Essendon, captain Matthew Lloyd comes back into the team after a week off to recover from a calf injury, whilst Angus Monfries and Andrew Welsh have also been named. Sam Lonergan and Mark McVeigh have both succumbed to hamstring injuries, with Damian Peveill dropped.

The Western Bulldogs have added some tall options to their extended squad to take on Richmond, with Wayde Skipper and Peter Street joining Callan Ward on an extended bench.

Ward, a 185 cm midfielder from the Western Jets, will make his AFL debut if selected. The unbeaten Dogs are yet to omit anyone from the side that defeated Essendon last week.

Richmond has also added three players, with Greg Tivendale, Cleve Hughes and Daniel Jackson named on a seven-man bench for Graham Polak's 100th AFL match.
