ALL AUSTRALIAN midfielder Joel Selwood has won the Geelong best-and-fairest award, the ‘Carji’ Greeves Medal.

Selwood upstaged departing star Gary Ablett in the count, which was held at Crown Casino in Melbourne.

Classy defender James Kelly finished third and also took home the coach’s award.

The night was dominated by the appearance of Ablett, who on Wednesday signed a multi-million dollar, five-year deal with expansion club Gold Coast.

But given he has pledged his long-term commitment to Geelong, Selwood proved a very popular winner.

There’s no doubt the decorated 22-year-old, who was recently selected in the All Australian team for the second time, enjoyed a stellar season.

He played in 24 of the Cats’ 25 matches in 2010 and averaged more than 28 possessions per game.

The other award winners were:

Best clubman: Tom Lonergan
Community Champion Award: Nathan Djerrkura and Travis Varcoe
Leading goalkicker: Steve Johnson
Best first year player: James Podsiadly
