I HAVE a high school reunion to show up for next week, and I'm still trying to find an excuse to avoid attending.

I'm not one of those nerds anxious to have my own 'in your face' moment against a former bully, so spending time with people who happened to be enrolled in the same school –one that has now been knocked down to make way for a Bunnings store - isn't high on my bucket list.

The usual backhanders come flying in on nights like this: you've put on a bit of weight since high school, it's a shame you couldn't get into my university and are you still living in that crappy area?

Then there are some individuals I'd rather dodge, including my old high school crush. When I see her, I seem to turn back into that gawky teenager who embarrassed himself on more than one occasion with utterly awful attempts at poetry.

And if you ever go to one of these shindigs, keep right away from the actual organisers of the reunion. These guys are so hell-bent on holding onto their teenage years that they will go to any lengths to make the night as retro as possible. Here's a thought: move on!

Reliving old school stories is fun for about 10 minutes, so hopefully I can sneak out the door before dessert. You end these nights realising that things aren't what they used to be.

Take the AFL class of 2010, where one of the Dream Team valedictorians was former Bulldog Brian Lake. It seems like an eternity ago that Lake was dominating fantasy circles and, as with the affiliation you once had with your high school mates, it is clear the scenery has changed.

The 31-year-old looks set to play his first game for the Hawks this Sunday against the Kangaroos, a team for which he should have fond memories.

Those who are fairly newish to fantasy football would probably find it hard to believe that Lake was once the record holder for an individual fantasy score in a single game, achieved three years ago against the side he will face on the weekend.

He finished with an amazing 192 points against North Melbourne in round nine, 2010, thanks to silly figures of 35 kicks, six handballs, 22 marks and two tackles. It is a fantasy score that has only been beaten by teammate Lance Franklin, scoring 204 – also against the Roos – in last year's big round 10 win for Hawthorn.

Lake averaged 99.77 fantasy points per game in 2010, but subsequent years haven't been as fruitful. Since then, the backman has managed season averages of 51 and 76. Are Lake's fantasy glory days behind him, or is he capable of catapulting back into the Dream Team spotlight?

Mr Fantasy's trade recommendations

Ins: Matthew Evans (Melbourne), Nick Vlastuin (Richmond)

Evans looked to be running on top of the ground in his side's devastating last quarter on Sunday. A breakeven score of -104 shows how far his value will spike after this week. A few injuries at Tigerland means Vlastuin should get some very solid game time in the next month.

Outs: Tyrone Vickery (Richmond), Daniel Rich (Brisbane Lions)
Those hoping that an injury-free Vickery would start rolling in points would be disappointed with his start to the season. The same could be said about Rich, who cracked the 60-point barrier in just one of his four games in 2013, and is now out for two months with a shoulder injury.
