ESSENDON will give former NBL basketballer Chris Molitor a chance to impress over the coming fortnight as it assesses its options ahead of next month's NAB AFL Pre-Season and Rookie drafts.

Coach James Hird said on Monday the Bombers, who will have a selection in the December 7 pre-season draft, would look to use that pick on a midfielder or ruckman - with youth a priority.

And Molitor a 204cm basketballer-turned footballer who spent a season playing for the Adelaide 36ers, may fit the bill.

The 22-year-old Molitor, who finished third in the NBL's Rookie of the Year voting in 2009-10, switched to football this season and spent the majority of the year in West Adelaide's reserves side.

The AFL has given him the okay to train with Essendon, as clubs updated their list of names of whom they wished to train with them following last week's national draft.

Other prominent names who will spend time at AFL clubs in the coming fortnight include Cameron Bruce and John Anthony.

That pair looks certain to find new AFL homes. Bruce is training with Hawthorn, which is expected to select him on December 7, while Anthony began training with Mark Harvey's side just days after deciding to walk out on reigning premier Collingwood.

Former Bomber Bachar Houli, whom Richmond is committed to selecting, is also a new addition to the permission to train list.

Youngsters Brad Harvey (Eastern Ranges) and Cameron Johnston (Geelong Falcons), who some considered stiff to be overlooked last week, will also begin training with Melbourne in a  bid to impress and try to earn a spot on an AFL list.
