Here are two examples of my loyalty which I think are worthy of telling.
- When I was driving trains quite a few years ago I used to stop at the Glenferrie oval to watch the last few seconds of the game before continuing on my way, invariably my train was late leaving the station thus forcing me to report there had been a fault with the train. Over the years there were many faults which always seemed to happen at Glenferrie station.
- If train drivers were rostered on football specials they were allowed to watch the game until 3/4 time before picking up their train to take the fans home. On one particular occasion the game was so close that I forgot about the 3/4 time limit, I had met up with another Hawks fan and we were travelling together to Flinders St Station when he asked if I had gone to the game straight from work as I was still in uniform, it was only then that I realised that I was still on duty and my train was still in Camberwell whereas I was on my way home after Hawthorn's glorious win. I got back to Camberwell just in time to run the last special. The department would have taken a dim view had I told them it was because of our win that I forgot everything else and I just wanted to get home and watch the replay.
All the best to our great team for 2010 and UP THE HAWKS.
