Milne was famously engaged in a war of words with Magpies coach Mick Malthouse at quarter-time of the round three clash between the sides this year.
The exchange dominated football news for days afterwards as tensions between the Collingwood and St Kilda camps lingered.
Milne said the chance to beat the Magpies in a grand final would bring an extra element to the day.
“It adds a bit of motivation. It has been a long trying year - not just the Collingwood game but a lot of other stuff,” Milne told afl.com.au.
“It would be a great taste in the mouth if we can get the job done.”
Milne was widely criticised for missing several shots at goal in last year’s grand final against Geelong, including one where he unsuccessfully tried to dribble the ball through.
He said the fallout from that game was not burdening him in the lead-up to today's clash.
“I think more things are playing on my mind than last year. That was a year ago, and I’m thinking about ... the two hours we’ve got ahead of us,” he said.
“We can create history and remember it forever. That’s one thing that’s really playing on my mind, and I don’t want to go through that pain of defeat again.”
Milne said he was thrilled to see teammate and close friend Steven Baker earn a recall to the side after missing three months of football.
Milne said Baker’s inclusion was for more than sentimental reasons, and predicted he would play a key role for the Saints.
“He’s the heart and soul of this footy club. The things he does on the footy field are amazing and, he’s one of the hardest players I’ve ever played with,” Milne said.
“To have him back in the side is amazing, and I’m sure he’ll do anything he can to get us over the line.”
