On Tuesday morning we again had an early start and made our way to Southport Oval for our main training session. We had our team meeting beforehand with a strong emphasis on contested ball, with many players wanting to avenge their games on the weekend. It was very hot and humid and after the warm up you could have sworn they had been out there for three hours with the amount of sweating going on.
Us rehab boys were sent to the side to work on our hand skills, but could see Nathan Bock training strongly so hopefully he could be ready to play in Alice Springs next weekend. Draftee Jack Gunston was also moving very sharply on the track. I was sent to do a bike program, and could see van Berlo and Porps doing some very quick laps around the outside as they continue their hard work on the way back from injuries.
It was good to see some of our supporters watching. They don’t get to see much of us up here but the Queensland Crows fans loved every minute of it.
Training was at a very high intensity and went for about two hours, and by the end of it you thought they would have all jumped into a pool their clothes were that wet and heavy. Then, just as training finished, the rain started and it did not stop all day. It was pouring down, forcing everyone back to their rooms. Hentschel won a friendly game of poker, with most others choosing to have a quiet afternoon around the hotel.
We had a team dinner at Mario’s restaurant, with the food being superb! We stayed there for a few hours before calling it a night. Looking forward to our day off on Wednesday before two more heavy sessions on Thursday and Friday.
Talk to you all soon,
Andy
