Shaun Burgoyne will front the AFL tribunal on Tuesday evening from 4.30pm (SA time), having rejected the offer of a three-game ban from the Match Review Panel.

Burgoyne risks a four-game ban, should the tribunal agree with the Match Review Panel’s findings.

Burgoyne was reported for rough conduct against Hawthorn’s Sam Mitchell from Saturday’s much-talked about loss to the Hawks in Tasmania.

The incident has been assessed as follows:

Shaun Burgoyne, Port Adelaide, has been charged with a Level Three engaging in rough conduct offence against Sam Mitchell, Hawthorn, during the first quarter of the Round Eight match between Port Adelaide and Hawthorn, played at Aurora Stadium on Saturday May 17, 2008.

The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), high impact (three points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction. He has 93.75 points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 418.75 points and a four-match sanction.

The Power plays Sydney (home), Fremantle (away), Carlton (home) and Geelong (away) in the next month.

Shaun will contest the charge via video link-up from Adelaide.

Meanwhile, Hawthorn’s Ben McGlynn will contest his charge for the contact made against Kane Cornes. He is also facing a four-game ban. His hearing will follow that of Burgoyne’s.

Shane Crawford accepted a one-game ban for striking Dean Brogan. He will miss the Hawks’ clash with Melbourne.
