MIDFIELDER Steven Salopek says Port Adelaide is primed for round one of the premiership season after rounding out an impressive pre-season with a five-point win over Sydney.

“It’s hard to tell because they’re just practice matches but we’ve played to win each game and been pretty focussed,” Salopek said.

The Power has beaten 2006 finalists Adelaide, St Kilda and the Swans, with the NAB Cup quarter-final against Geelong its only loss.

Salopek said he is looking forward to taking on a more senior role in his fifth season at AFL level.

“They had me tagging Nic Fosdike on the wing tonight and I didn’t do so well in the first half but I knuckled down after half-time.

“I don’t know if I’m going to be used mainly as a tagger this year. I think I played that role tonight just to add another string to my bow and it was a good experience.”
