A 1999 pre-season draft pick, Poulton debuted in Round 1, 1999, against Sydney Swans at the SCG, before he was culled from the list only to be redrafted with pick 76 in the National AFL Draft of 2001. Renowned as an impact player off the bench, his career was often blighted by injury - often caused by his fierce attack on the man and the ball.
