FRIDAY night. Subiaco Oval. West Coast Eagles versus Carlton.

Sharp-eyed observers and those with good memories may have noticed that this game heralds the return of Chris Judd to Subiaco Oval for the first time in 2008.

You remember the bloke – West Coast Eagles premiership captain and Norm Smith Medallist, Brownlow Medallist, dual West Coast club champion, twice All-Australian, AFLPA MVP, part of the biggest trade ever, rated by many as the best player in the game, all-round nice guy.

Ring any bells?

If it did with Eagles coach John Worsfold, he wasn’t giving it away at his Wednesday press conference.

Asked about who would play on Carlton's spearheads, the West Coast coach played his cards very close to his chest.

"More than likely one of our key defenders on [Brendan] Fevola, probably Darren Glass, but it could be one of the other ones," he said. "And through the midfield, on – who was the [other one]?"

[Journalist] "Judd."

"Oh, Judd. Possibly one of our taggers," Worsfold revealed.

Well, that sorted that out.

Midfield coach Peter Sumich said on Monday that one of the keys against Judd was to get his direct opponent to kick goals on him, but goal-kicking midfielders have been missing from West Coast all season, irrespective of whether the opponent likes it or not.

"Can we get someone who can kick goals on every one of their players. Please. That would be handy," Worsfold said.

"That's certainly one option to look at. Chris will be in hunting the footy, and that does mean there is the potential that a player can get away from him in space, but you're also then maybe leaving him with a bit more space as well, so we've got to weigh that up.

"But if we could get some of our midfielders kicking goals, and if it's directly on Chris, that'd be great."

And with star onballer Daniel Kerr missing through suspension, the midfield is set for both a new look and a huge job.

"It's a great challenge for Peter Sumich and Dean Cox and our midfield group to come up with something this week that is going to really compete hard. We know they will – how effective they can be is the challenge for them.

"We expect them to keep working hard and backing themselves. It'll be a different mix again this week, obviously, and sometimes releasing the shackles can help, youth can help with that, so we'll have a good look at all those things.

"Our midfield, potentially, will have a very different look about it than it has in the past, but we're confident it will give us that run."
