The trade comes hot on the heels of the Crows obtaining young ruckman Sam Jacobs from Carlton.
The Dockers received pick 61 from Gold Coast as part of the Peter Faulks deal earlier in trade week.
Griffin requested a trade back to his state of origin for personal reasons, putting in his request before the season had finished.Adelaide football manager Phil Harper said the club had done what it could to help the 24-year-old get home to assist in dealing with family issues.
"It will be a compassionate trade really. We'll let him go home and help out with his father and brother," Harper said.
Griffin was first drafted by the Crows from East Fremantle in the 2005 NAB AFL Rookie draft (pick 21) and was elevated to the main list after his first year.
The 24-year-old has struggled to break into the side, and played 11 games this year for 41 in total.
Adelaide put Griffin up for trade last year and received very little interest, but he played most of his games in the second half of this year and gained good reviews, playing in Adelaide's rounds 13-16 run of wins.
Griffin is expected to be used as a backup for champion ruckman Aaron Sandilands as young Zac Clarke develops.
