By turning yellow on for Sunday’s game against Fremantle, the Blues have helped raise around $60,000 to fight cancer. Bids for the 22 guernseys worn in the match, signed by the player, have almost reached a total of $60,000 with the auction scheduled to conclude at 9:00pm on Thursday July 9.

Funds raised from the auction will be shared between the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

“This is an outstanding effort and we hope the bids keep coming in as all money is going to help the ongoing fight against cancer. It is wonderful to know that through Nike and the Livestrong Foundation we have been able to raise awareness and in doing so raise these important funds,” said Carlton CEO Greg Swann.

It is no surprise to see Chris Judd’s number 5 guernsey with the highest bid; $10,500 while other guernseys have attracted bids between $1,500 and $7,100.

The wearing of the yellow guernseys coincided with the commencement of the Tour de France and the return of Lance Armstrong to the event as he aimed for a record eighth Tour victory. And after the first four stages of the 2009 Tour Lance has certainly reminded everyone of his class, sitting in second spot in the overall classifications.

Who knows, if Lance is able to win his eighth Tour de France, the yellow Livestrong Carlton guernseys may be worth even more money.
