RICHMOND'S new general manager of football says the club is well into its rebuilding process and will continue to look to youth.

Craig Cameron was the club's list and strategy manager, but has moved into the job vacated by Greg Miller in July. Before coming to Richmond, Cameron spent a decade as recruiting manager with Melbourne.

He said the good finish to the 2008 season is the start of a bright future for the Tigers.

"I get the sense that it's a first step, because we're doing it on the back of a number of younger players," he said.

"I know Richo had a fantastic season, Joel Bowden played well and a few of the other older players like Kane Johnson really contributed, but we also had (Brett) Deledio and Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt and Cleve Hughes making contributions as well.

"So there's a lot of youth coming through to underpin it.

"I think we've had a good end of this season – we finished with 11-and-a-half wins. Last year we won three-and-a-half games, so that's a really big jump, but history shows that some sides can jump and come back down again.

"So we need to play finals at some point, and show that we've got sustainable ability on the field over a couple of years."

The football department at Richmond is set to grow, Cameron said.

"I think in terms of recruiting, and bolstering that recruiting area, we'll probably add some people in the next few months.

"We'll probably add some staff in other areas as well – I think it's been reported that there's been some slashes in the Richmond footy department, but we'll actually end up with more people in football next year, than we had this year."
