He follows in the footsteps of Kane Tenace and Andrew Mackie.
Moloney debuted for the Cats in round 14 of last season and played eight of the remaining nine matches last season. He has played six games in 2004, mainly in the midfield and had 20 touches in the narrow loss to Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.
Assuming the responsibility of wearing the famous 32 hooped guernsey after Garry Hocking, the 20-year-old debuted in Round 14 last year in Geelong’s win against Port Adelaide and then played eight of the last nine games of the season. This year he has played six matches, spending most time in the midfield. In last weekend’s close defeat to Port Adelaide, Moloney again was named in the best with 20 possessions in one of the best games of the season.
Moloney is a former South Warnambool player, the same club that has produced Jonathon Brown, Matt Maguire and James Rahilly.
He was a Vic Country representative at under 16 and under 18 level, but because of a knee injury was not selected at the 2002 National AFL Draft. The Cats took him with the fourth selection overall at the 2003 pre-season draft, although he was training with West Coast at the time.
